Minimize Risk with Crop Insurance
Agriculture faces many risks one of which is the risk of loss due to the forces of nature. Help to minimize this risk with crop insurance.
Multi-Peril Crop Insurance
Multi-Peril Crop Insurance provides protection against production losses from a number of uncontrollable causes. For most crops, these include primarily: drought, hail, excessive moisture, frost/freeze, wind, flood and damage from insects and disease.
MPCI is the most popular plan of insurance coverage chosen by producers due to its flexibility in levels and price. Buy-up coverage levels range from 50% to 85% of the crop’s average yield at up to 100% of the established FCIC price.
Catastrophic Coverage
The minimum amount of coverage required to remain eligible for USDA benefits. The coverage is based on 50% of the producing operation’s average yield at 55% of the FCIC established price. The CAT policy requires a fee of $60.00 per crop (due on billing date) and has considerable limitations compared to standard MPCI coverage. Some limitations include basic unit structure and elimination of replant option.

Crop Revenue Coverage
Crop Revenue Coverage (CRC) provides coverage against a loss of revenue caused by any combination of low yields and low prices. It is a relatively new plan of insurance that has quickly become popular.
The CRC plan provides the farmer with a revenue guarantee (minimum dollar per acre coverage) that increases if harvest prices are high. This reduces concern about falling crop prices during the harvest period.
The rules for the replant provision with CRC are the same as APH with losses being handled the same. However, certain criteria must be met to qualify for loss payments.
The rate structure will be the same for replant sold in conjunction with CRC and APH. However, there may be a difference in cost between insureds. This is because the rates are based on MPCI price elections and will vary depending on the price election chosen. The higher the MPCI price election, the lower the cost of the replant option.
